There is little else I find more
inspirational than a large long-manned lion, or the beauty and
power of the
Bengal tiger. With the leopard, the quintessential cat, and the
slender cheetah, these big cats typify grace, power and
ruthlessness and these are the aspects I attempt to capture in
my paintings. Also, the beautiful and diverse Southern African
landscapes and seascapes, its people and places, form a
significant part of my work. |

I paint for the love of my subjects in the
techniques of realism- impressionism and ultra-realism. The mediums of my choice
are acrylics ( predominantly ), oils and pastels. I am not temperamental,
affected by sporadic moods of inspiration. My goals are to achieve excellence
and to pursue it in very competitive wilderness and non-wilderness art
environments. A priority, also, is an active support for the conservation of our
wilderness areas through my paintings. |

My teachers have always been the great
artists of the world. Kim Donaldson introduced me to pastels in
the early eighties. The work of Dino Paravano, Simon Coombes,
Raymond Harris-Ching, David Shepherd, Andre Joubert and Bob Kuhn
have inspired me and I have developed and refined my own
techniques by studying their magnificent art over the years. |

I am from
Port Elizabeth,
South Africa, where I developed an interest in drawing from an early age.
Despite this, I did not pursue formal study in art but graduated with a
scientific qualification instead.
